We believe that true Christian education is defined by one point of view – it is centered on Jesus Christ.  If education is centered on humanism, it is not a “secular education” as some believe.  Rather, it is a spiritual education, based on a religion that worships man.

A Christian education contains the following characteristics:

  • It is for God’s glory
  • It is based on the Bible
  • It is centered on Jesus Christ, not upon secular humanism

In essence, a Christian child’s education should not solely consist in acquiring a good collection of books and dedicating endless hours to learning many subjects. THE MAIN PURPOSE OF A CHRISTIAN EDUCATION IS TO TEACH OUR CHILDREN A LIFESTYLE THAT IS PLEASING TO GOD.

Obviously, a child must learn many important subjects well during his education, such as reading, writing, mathematics, science, etc.  However, the first priority in Christian education must not be for the child to simply master these subjects to an acceptable degree.  The first priority in educating our children is for them to learn to think, act and live according to the principles that God has established for His people.  God has given parents both the privilege and responsibility of teaching their children this path, but the task of doing so becomes virtually impossible if our children spend a large part of their day with people that lead them in a different direction.

Most parents are aware of the importance of teaching our children the Scriptures, but one cannot expect them to assimilate the principles and lifestyle found in the Bible if they spend hours every day being taught by people who have a different perspective of the world.  If all their texts are based on secular humanism, one cannot expect them to grow up rejecting what they have been taught.  In many countries of the world, when schools were first founded, the Bible was the foundation of the children’s education and the basis for their understanding of each subject.  This is what every Christian parent should desire for his own children.

Sadly, many Christian parents end up raising children who forsake the Lord.  In recent surveys in the United States, it was discovered that 85% of the children who come from Christian homes end up forsaking Christ if they attend a public school.  On the other hand, 93% of Christian children become Christian adults if they are taught at home.

It is important for us to understand that if an education is not built upon the rock of eternal truths, it will be built, instead, upon the sand of man’s opinions.  Every Christian parent longs to be a positive influence in the spiritual lives of his or her children.  Therefore, it behooves us all to reflect on what type of influence our children are receiving through the education they are exposed to daily.  No Christian parent should allow his children to receive teachings that are not based on eternal truths.  The influence of such teachings will not only affect the future of their children, but those teachings will mold and affect their tender minds and spirits, determining what kind of a person they ultimately become.
